SHELBY COUNTY, situated in the central part of Alabama, with Coosa river on the east, and the Catawba on the west. Area, 950 square miles. Seat of justice, Columbiana. Pop. in 1820, 2,416; in 1830, 5,704; in 1840, 6,112; in 1850, 9,536. (Fanning's, 1853)
