ANSON COUNTY, situated in the south part of North Carolina, on the westerly side of the river Yadkin. Length, about 33 miles; mean width, 23, covering an area of about 760 square miles. The face of the country is mountainous and rather broken, the river lands fertile, but the uplands thin and unproductive. Courts are held at Wadesborough. Pop. in 1820, [22,534?]; in 1830 14,085; 1840, 15,077; in 1850, 13,489.
