Entry by Samuel Elliot, October 31, 1864

"Drawing Rations," Florence Stockade, Florence, South Carolina, drawing
Samuel Elliot was a member of the 36th Regiment 7th Pennsylvania Volunteer Corps in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was captured during the Battle of Wilderness on May 5-7, 1864 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Elliot’s prison diary entry on October 31, 1864 described how the conditions at the Florence Stockade prison camp in South Carolina were much worse than the conditions at Andersonville Prison in Georgia.
