WESTCHESTER COUNTY, situated in the southeast part of New York, with Long Inland sound on the southeast, and Hudson river on the west. Area, 470 square miles. Face of the country, rough and hilly; soil, generally productive. Seats of justice, White Plains and Bedford. Pop. in 1810, 30,272; in 1820, 32,638; in 1830, 36,456; in 1840, 48,686; in 1850, 57,863.
