YORK COUNTY, situated on the south boundary of Pennsylvania, with Susquehanna river on the northeast. Area, 864 square miles. Face of the country, hilly; soil, varied. Seat of justice, York. Pop. in 1810, 31,958; in 1820, 38,759; in 1830, 42,658; in 1840, 47,010; in 1850, 57,450. (Fanning's, 1853)
