Albany County, NY

ALBANY COUNTY, New York, on the west side of Hudson river, and bounded by the Mohawk on the northeast. Its length is about 22 miles, and its breadth 21 miles, containing about 462 square miles. The face of the country is generally hilly, the soil sandy and light, though much of it well cultivated and fertile, particularly along the Hudson. Court are held at Albany, the capital of the state. Pop. in 1820, 38,116; in 1830, 53,560; in 1840, 68,593; in 1850, 93,279. (Fanning's, 1853)
