MOBILE COUNTY, situated at the southwest corner of Alabama, with the gulf of Mexico on the south, Mobile bay and Texas river on the east, and traversed by Mobile river. Area, 2,250 square miles. Face of the country level; soil generally barren. Seat of justice, Mobile. Pop. in 1816, 1,300; in 1820, 2,672; in 1830, 3,071; in 1840, 18,741; in 1850, 27,600. (Fanning's, 1853)
