NEW CASTLE COUNTY, situated in the north part of Delaware, with Delaware bay and river on the east. Area, 456 square miles. Face of the country hilly and broken; soil, which is a strong clay, generally productive. Seats of justice, Wilmington and New Castle. Pop. in 1820, 27,899; in 1830, 29,710; in 1840, 33,120; in 1850, 42,390.
