New Castle County, DE

NEW CASTLE COUNTY, situated in the north part of Delaware, with Delaware bay and river on the east. Area, 456 square miles. Face of the country hilly and broken; soil, which is a strong clay, generally productive. Seats of justice, Wilmington and New Castle. Pop. in 1820, 27,899; in 1830, 29,710; in 1840, 33,120; in 1850, 42,390. (Fanning's, 1853)
