The Virginia Republican State Convention meets in Wheeling, Virginia

The Virginia State Republican Convention was held in Wheeling.  Around three hundred delegates attended from around the state.  Delegates were chosen for Chicago and proposals were passed favoring tariffs, the Homestead Bill, and the colonization of African-Americans.  Francis Preston Blair, Jr. of St. Louis spoke to a large crowd in the evening.  (By John Osborne)
