Two South Carolina slaves stow away aboard Boston bound steamer; one escapes, one does not

The steamship S.R. Spaulding sailed from Charleston, South Carolina bound for Boston, carrying among others the Massachusetts Democratic delegates from the recently adjourned national convention.  Towards the end of the voyage an escaped slave stowaway named William Bracker was discovered, captured, and transferred to a passing ship bound for Baltimore.  The next day, another escapee got ashore and was thought to have escaped to Canada.  (By John Osborne)
