Collins, Benjamine A.

Benjamine A. Collins was born in New Jersey around 1836 and served in the United States Colored Troops during the Civil War. According to his service records, Collins worked as a laborer before he joined Company I of the 22nd USCT on January 5, 1864 in Philadelphia. While reduced to ranks on November 13, 1864, he regained that position on October 1, 1865. Sixteen days later, however, Collins’ military service ended when he was mustered out in Brownsville, Texas.
