ARREST OF MARSHAL KANE. – It will be seen that Gen. BANKS has arrested the famous Marshal KANE. We regret the fact sincerely; not because there is not abundant reason for his [action?], but because it is simply a repetition at the senseless farce that has been so often repeated in Maryland and the other Border States. Like MERRIMAN and WINANS, he will of course be discharged to resume his authority and renew his treasonable courses. There will be no indictment, no trial, no punishment, and if Gen. BANKS escapes being superseded or censured for making the arrest, he will fare better than other officers of distinguished patriotism and energy. We are weary of this dalliance with treason, these exhibitions of timidity or tenderness that draws no distinction between the traitor and the true man; and any act that furnishes us with a repetition of the spectacle we profoundly deprecate.
