The Ohio Democratic Party met at their state convention in Columbus, Ohio and nominated the banished Clement Vallandigham as their candidate for governor in the November election. The gathering also nominated George Ellis Pugh, who represented Vallandigham at his court martial the month before. Resolutions were also passed in strong condemnation of Lincoln Administration actions, while at the same time professing the deep loyalty to the Union of Ohio Democrats. Vallandigham lost the fall election to Republican John Brough. (By John Osborne)
