RESCUE OF A SLAVE FROM THE U.S. MARSHAL AT BLAIRSVILLE, PA. On Thursday last, a Mr. Stump, from Virginia, of one of the second families, went to Blairsville, Pa., to reclaim a fugitive slave. The Deputy U.S. Marshal, assisted by Mr. Stump, caught the negro, and was about shipping him to Virginia, when the citizens became excited and surrounded the negro and his captors.
The Virginia gentleman, Mr. Stump, got frightened, discharged his pistol into the crowd, and then he and the Deputy U.S. Marshal immediately took to their heels. The Blairsvillians took the slave away, and concealed him, while the negroes in the crowd followed the affrighed Virginia gentleman and the Marshal to the depot, hooting at them, and even pelting them on the with thither. At last accounts, the fugitive was on the Underground Railroad for the North, and Mr. Stump on his return to Virginia.-Cincinnati Gazette
