BARREN COUNTY, situated in the southerly part of Kentucky. Length, 45 miles; mean width, 20; extending over an area of 900 square miles. The face of the country is generally level, and the soil of middling quality. Courts are held at Glasgow. Pop. in 1820, 10,328; in 1830, 15,079; in 1840, 17,288; and in 1850, 20,240.

BALLARD COUNTY, Ky., situated in the western most part of the state, on the southerly side of the Ohio, and on the easterly side of the Mississippi river. It is traversed by Mayfield creek. Area, 375 square miles. Courts are held at Columbus. Pop. in 1850, 5,496.

ANDERSON COUNTY, situated in the central part of Kentucky, along the westerly side of Kentucky river. Area, 170 square miles. Drained by Salt river and its branches. Courts are held at Lawrenceburgh. Pop. in 1830, 4,520; in 1840, 5,452; in 1850, 6,260.
