Treaty of Bayonne between France and Spain sets their international borders

The long standing disagreement between France and Spain over their mountainous international boundaries comes to an end with the signing of the Treaty of Bayonne. A complex system of reciprocal local arrangements on things like the grazing of cattle and the payment of national taxes will develop in the border areas and will exist into the twentieth century. South Carolina Governor James Adams calls for the reinstitution of the African slave trade

Governor James Hopkins Adams of South Carolina, in his annual message to the state legislature, called for the re-institution of the trade in slaves between African and the American continent. He did not get the support of the legislators for this action. (By John Osborne)
