In Dublin, Irish police seize the offices of the Fenian Brotherhood's newspaper, the Irish People.

With rumors of a Fenian uprising in southern Ireland spreading, British authorities seized the Fenian Brotherhood's main public voice, the Irish People, closing down its Dublin offices and confiscating type and machines.  Many members of the Brotherhood were arrested at the same time and their stock of weapons taken. In November 1865 dozens of Fenians went on trial for rebellion. (By John Osborne)
