The body of slain President Lincoln is laying in state in the United States Capitol rotunda

Following the White House funeral service of the previous day, President Lincoln's remains were conveyed in a hearse drawn by six white horses to the Capitol rotunda where the coffin remained in state until Friday morning and thousands of citizens filed past.  Then, the body was conveyed to the railroad depot for its long ride home.
