A tugboat race in New York's East River ends in tragedy when one vessels bursts its boilers, killing four

In the morning, two New York City tugs, the Olive Baker and the B.B. Sanders began a race against each other in the East River.  As the pair reached the are near the end of Jackson Street in the city, the B.B. Cummings suddenly exploded throwing ship parts and the seven-man crew scores of feet into the air. Four of the seven were killed. (By John Osborne)
