    ...The So: Carolina Resolutions to destroy the Union meet with but little sympathy. S.C. I think, stands alone in the real wish to dissolve the Union. Every where else in the South the threat seems to be only a political trick, used in terrorem to frighten timid people into the support of favorite southern measures. In So: Ca[rolina]: I do believe the leaders are silly enough to be in earnest, and self-conceited enough to imagine that other people may mistake their wicked folly for wisdom and honor....
