The third session of the 41st Congress of the United States returns from its holiday recess

The "lame duck" third session of the Forty-first Congress returns from its holiday recess. The House and the Senate will now sit until March 3, 1871. In the House, James Gillespie Blaine of Maine is in the speaker's chair. (By John Osborne)
