Reed, Crawford

Crawford Reed was born in Shenandoah County, Virginia in 1827 and later moved to Pennsylvania. Whether he was enslaved or free is unknown, but on February 24, 1864 Reed joined Company F of the 32nd United States Colored Troops in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He received a promotion to corporal on March 15, 1864 and left military service in August 1865. After the war, Reed moved to Tidioute, Pennsylvania, where he worked as a teamster. He married Sara, who worked as a housekeeper, and they had at least one daughter, Ida, who was born in the late 1860s. Reed died on April 5, 1886 and he was buried in Tidioute Cemetery. His wife died several decades later on June 7, 1904. (By Don Sailer)
