John W. Johnson was born in about 1837 and went on to become a private in Company D, 45th United States Colored Troops. He was eventually promoted to corporal of the company and was “mustered out” on November 4, 1865. He was married to Betty B. Johnson and died at seventy-two years old on June 22, 1909. Johnson is buried in Lincoln Cemetery in Penbrook, Pennsylvania. (By Brenna McKelvey)
