Jose Desiderio Valverde becomes the new President of the Dominican Republic

Pedro Santana leads a revolt against his previous protege Buenaventura Baez and places his latest choice, General Jose Desiderio Valverde as President in Santiago. Within months, Santana will seize power for himself and will eventually engineer the re annexation of the Republic by the Spanish Empire in 1861. (By John Osborne)
