Twenty-five people drown during an outing at Boykin's Mill, South Carolina

A group of neighbors and friends, out for a Saturday of picnicking and fishing at Boykin's Mill Pond near Camden, South Carolina, boarded a flat boat for a trip around the lake. The flatboat got into difficulties, there was a panic, and within minutes twenty-five people had drowned.  More than half of the victims were young women and girls. (By John Osborne)
