THE POLICY OF THE ADMINISTRATION. – Some of the Democrats in Congress are endeavoring to make it appear that the policy of the Administration towards the South is war. Senator Douglas and Breckinridge have recently made elaborate speeches, the whole object being to show that President Lincoln’s Inaugural indicated a hostile purpose towards the Southern States. And this seems to be the tone of the Democratic press throughout the country. But the public understand very well the patriotic purposes to be served by such persons. – Windsor Journal.
Where did the Journal find its material for the above statement in relation to Mr. Douglas. If we are not much mistaken he sustained Mr. Lincoln’s Inaugural because it was pacific, and so declared in the U. S. Senate. Had not the Journal better take the papers and read the news. It might save such blunders as the above, if it is the intention of that paper to tell things as they are.
