In New York State, a destructive fire strikes the town of Lockport

A morning fire in Lockport, New York destroyed significant portions of the main street, including the office of the Journal and Courier newspaper. Damages were estimated immediately at around $45,000 but no serious injuries were reported.  (By John Osborne)
