The Illinois State Legislature strongly protests the military shutdown of the Chicago Times

The Illinois State House of  Representatives, meeting in a special session on other matters, passed a strongly worded resolution condemning the closing of the Chicago Times under military orders two days before.  After a spirited debate, the resolution, calling the action "an invasion of the sovereignty of the State of Illinois," passed by a vote of 47 to 18.  General Burnside's order was rescinded the next day on instructions from the White House.
