In another example of racial intimidation, the local press in Cincinatti, Ohio reported that a freed slave named Harrison Griggs had sworn a complaint with the Freedmens' Bureau in Covington, Kentucky, stating that armed white men had come to his cabin in Boone County late at night. They threatened his family, savagely whipped him, and demanded he leave the county and not return. He and his family left the next morning. (By John Osborne)
