The Price of Privilege: "Civil Disobedience" at 150

Traces the influence of Henry David Thoreau's lecture given at the Concord Lyceum in Massachusetts on "The Rights and Duties of the Individual in Relation to the Government" given in 1848. Although government has become larger, more impersonal, and detached, Thoreau's major theme of human interdependency is just as relevant as it was 150 years ago. There is still a moral and political imperative for all citizens in a democracy to be responsible for everything that their government does.
