DAUPHIN COUNTY, situated toward the southeast part of Pennsylvania, with Susquehanna river on the west. Area, 608 square miles. Face of the country mountainous and hilly; soil generally fertile. Seat of justice, Harrisburgh, which is also the capital of the state. Pop. in 1820, 21,663; in 1830, 25,303; in 1840, 30,118; in 1850, 35,754.
