MIDDLESEX COUNTY, situated on the south boundary of Connecticut, with Long Island sound on the south, and traversed by Connecticut river. Area, 342 square miles. Face of the country hilly; soil varied, but generally productive. Seat of justice, Middletown. Pop. in 1810, 20,723; in 1820, 22,408; in 1830, 24,845; in 1840, 24,879; in 1850, 27,216.
