DORCHESTER COUNTY, situated toward the southeasterly part of Maryland, with Chesapeak bay on the west. Area 640 square miles. Face of the country level and marshy; soil sandy and of middling quality. Seat of justice; Cambrdige. Pop. in 1810, 18,109; in 1820, 17,700; in 1830, 18,683; in 1840, 18,843; in 1850, 18,877.
