Quarantine Affairs.
The fleet increases at Quarantine, but generally the detention is only for brief periods, unless there is sickness on board.
The ship Guttenberg, from Hamburg, with 123 steerage passengers, the Bremerhaven, from Bremen, with 27 passengers, and the Eliza Rubeche, from Bremen, with 153 passengers, are at Castle Garden, in fine condition. Most of the emigrants have started for the West.
The ship Republic, Captain [BEOCKMAN?], arrived on Saturday, 39 days from Bremen, with 270 passengers and was detained at Quarantine, having a large number of cases of smallpox on board. The passengers were all sent to the “St. Nicholas” Hospital, and vaccinated.
On Sunday the brig Exall, from Havana, Captain BEADLING, arrived at Quarantine, brining into port a few passengers, and a case of virulent smallpox.
The work of discharging the Susquehanna, and purifying her, progresses favorably.
