    Our Richmond Correspondence.

    RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 14, 1858.

    Governor Wise vs. Douglas.

Some leading members of the democracy in Illinois, have solicited Governor Wise to take the stump in that State in behalf of Douglas. The Governor declines, but writes a letter which will, doubtless, soon be published, giving his views of the issues involved in that campaign. As I am informed, he warmly advocates Douglas’ re-election, and boldly maintains the position which he assumed at the outset of the Lecompton controversy. The letter will be found to embody all those characteristics of clearness, force and ability which mark every production of that extraordinary man. Facts and figures and not speculations or vague generalities are proverbial features of whatever emanates from him; and his forthcoming letter will be found fully to sustain his peculiar prominence in these characteristics.
