The second session of the 45th Congress closes in Washington, DC

In Washington, D.C., Speaker Samuel J. Randall gavels the second session of the Forty-fifth Congress of the United States to an end. The session has sat for 200 days. Taking these first two sessions together, the Congress has been in session for 250 days, between October, 15, 1877 and June 20, 1878, with only the two week holiday recess intervening.
