The third session of the 45th Congress opens in Washington, DC

The third, "lame duck" session of the Forty-fifth Congress of the United States begins. The session will sit for less than three weeks before it votes the usual two week holiday recess on December 20, 1878. It will then return in the new year and sit from January 7 till March 3, 1879.
