The 45th Congress comes to the end of its term in Washington DC

Speaker Randall gavels the third, "lame duck" session of the Forty-fifth Congress of the United States to a close, ending its term. It has sat for a total of 342 days over its two years. The Forty-sixth Congress will assemble in Washington two weeks later, on March 18, 1879. (By John Osborne)
