Traces feminism from its inception at the 1848 Woman's Rights Convention at Seneca Falls, New York, and discusses strikes of female workers, attempts to reform the institution of marriage, the relation between the abolition movement and the women's movement, and the battle for suffrage which succeeded in the 19th Constitutional Amendment in 1920.
