The Beginning of Sorrows.
The hanging of John Brown, it would appear, is but the beginning of sorrows in Virginia. Yesterday the third invasion of that venerable commonwealth was telegraphed to the country – a second installment of the Straw-Stack War! The items are pretty much of the old sort – farm produce in flames, cattle bewitched, and the chivalry in a paroxysm of terror. Messengers were sent flying hither and thither in the chronic consternation of the Virginia [Fencibles?] – each man proving by the celerity of his movements and the frenzy of his aspect that old Virginia never tires. Whether anything more palpable than the ghost of John Brown is pushing them from their stools, does not yet appear.
