Levee Convention. – The proposition to hold a convention of planters to take action in regard to protection against river floods, begins to hold out promise. The Vicksburg Whig, of the 10th inst., says:
An informal meeting of planters who happened to be in Vicksburg, was held on the 10th inst., who agreed to call a convention of the planters on the Mississippi river, between St. Louis and the Balize, to consult together for their mutual benefit and protection. They also agreed upon Vicksburg as the place, and the second Monday of July as the time. The police juries, boards of police, and other authorities of the counties on the river, are requested to appoint delegates, and the planters themselves are requested to assemble and appoint such of their number to attend as will represent their views.
