New York City reports decline in new immigrants

The Commissioners on Immigration met in New York and announced weekly and annual new arrival figures.  For the week ending September 28, 1859, the arrivals were 2,886 and for the whole year so far, 58,554.  This was down from the previous year, when by the if September, 1858, the figure was 61,323.  (By John Osborne)
