Russian playwright Aleksandr Ostrovsky's wrote his best-known work "Groza," or "The Storm" after a visit to the headwaters of the Volga River. Its premiere in Moscow on this date resulted in Ostrovsky winning the prestigious Uvarov Prize. (By John Osborne)
