Kit Carson Not Dead.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE HERALD.
NEW YORK, Nov. 28, 1859.
In your paper of the 23d ult. I read a notice of the death of the famous mountaineer and Indian Agent, Kit Carson. Recent letters from Taos, New Mexico, where Mr. Carson resides, and where I am connected as a merchant, do not mention this event, and, therefore, I have reason to doubt the truth of the report. Mr. Carson is a customer at my store and an intimate friend of mine, and I am certain that my brother in Taos would have [early?] informed me of his demise, had it taken place.
The rumor is said to have come via Fort Kearney and Omaha City, Nebraska, which is a very indirect way of receiving intelligence from New Mexico.
Mr. Carson is one of the most esteemed citizens in our Territory, and his demise would be a great loss to the country at large.
