Spriggs, James A.

James A. Spriggs was born around 1844 and went on to become a private in the 3rd United States Colored Troops during the Civil War. He enlisted on January 19, 1865 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania as a substitute and mustered out with his company on October 31, 1865. His military records describe him as being five feet and ten inches tall with black hair, eyes, and complexion. Spriggs passed away on February 13, 1891 and was laid to rest in Ridge Colored Cemetery. (By Brenna McKelvey)
