Herman, Thomas

Thomas Herman was a member of the 24th United States Colored Troops Regiment. The army organized the regiment at Camp William Penn in Chelten Hills, Pennsylvania from January 30 until March 30, 1865. After training at Camp William Penn the 24th USCT moved to Washington D.C. where the regiment was stationed at Camp Casey. The soldiers spent time at Lookout Point in Maryland guarding prisoners before returning to duty in Richmond, Virginia in September 1865. The surviving members of the 24th United States Colored Troops Regiment mustered out on October 1, 1865. Herman was laid to rest in Chestnut Grove Cemetery in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
