The French Empress relaxes in England and Scotland on a private visit

Empress Eugenie, consort of Napoleon III of France, was ordered by her doctors to get away from the press of court duties in Paris for a period of rest and relaxation.  Accordingly, she made a discreet and unofficial private visit to the United Kingdom where she visited London and also toured scenic areas of central Scotland.  She returned home on December 13, 1860.  (By John Osborne)
