Dickinson College students punished for "smoking out" a classmate from his dormitory room

At the weekly Dickinson College faculty meeting, Samuel Coombe Hopkins '58, Walter D. McAdoo '64, and Charles E. Hiester '63 were assessed significant penalty points for "smoking out" Austin Bierbower '64 from his room in East College. Hopkins became a teacher but died in 1864, McAdoo an entrepreneur, Hiester a Union army officer who died in 1888, and Bierbower a well-known writer, professor, and lawyer who died 1913. (By John Osborne)
