LAWRENCE COUNTY, situated in the southerly part of Mississippi, and traversed by Pearl river. Area, 790 square miles. Face of the country hilly; soil generally sterile. Seat of justice, Monticello. Pop. in 1820, 4,916; in 1830, 5,321; in 1840, 5,920; in 1850, 6,478.
